This is the first (of which we hope many to come!) guest posts from from Joe Solomon - Director of Social Actions' Change the Web Challenge.
There is a revolution brewing in the nonprofit technology community - it's a movement to change the world by changing the web.
The movement is being led by Social Actions' Change the Web Challenge - which is proudly sponsored by Convio.
For those new to Change the Web, it's a contest launching on Feb 16th to encourage a new wave of web applications that help you find, share, and take actions on the websites, blogs, and social networks that we visit online everyday.
SocialActions already lets you search through an open and constantly updated database of 60,000+ actions from 40+ sites including Change.org, GlobalGiving.org, DonorsChoose.org, VolunteerMatch.org, and Kiva.org.
What the Change the Web Challenge is about is getting these actions in front of people - by inspiring new tools that help you find ways to take action as you surf the web.
The Change the Web Challenge invites you to answer the question: How would YOU connect ways to take action to the millions of people who browse the web everyday?
Thanks in part to Convio, Social Actions will be offering $10,000 in prize money to developers who create rock star apps - with winners announced at NTEN's Nonprofit Technology Conference in late April. Submissions open on Feb 16th.
We welcome the Connection Cafe community to get involved with this initative!
Our next volunteer call-in date is this Thursday Feb 5th - How YOU Can Help Change the Web
And we'll be announcing special events at socialactions.com/changetheweb (Subscribe by RSS here)
Developers can also join the Social Actions' Developer Google Group.
We look forward to keeping the Connection Cafe community up-to-date with the latest news about the Change the Web Challenge and hope you'll join us on this journey to change the world by changing the web!
