5 Web Design Tips For More Effective Calls To Action

    RichardBy RichardApril 25, 2017Updated:April 26, 2017No Comments3 Mins Read

As a rule of thumb every page on a website should have a specific purpose. In many cases that purpose is tied to the call to action that will encourage visitors to fulfill the objective – such as making a purchase, joining an email list, or anything else for that matter.

Though they might seem unrelated at first, your web design and call to action are actually inextricably linked. In many ways the call to action is the central element of the web design, and relies on it to be effective. To make sure that is the case, there are a few tips that could go a long way:

    • Establish a visual hierarchy

Ideally your web design should be engineered with a visual hierarchy that guides visitors through its content and to the call to action. For example, you would want them to first have their interest piqued with a strong headline, then explain the benefits to them, before finally letting them know what they should do with the call to action. To establish that visual hierarchy you’ll need to engineer your elements in terms of size, contrast, and overall design – which can be tricky, but is well worth it.

    • Minimize distractions

As you can well imagine distractions are extremely undesirably as they can divert visitors from the visual hierarchy and guide them elsewhere. That is particularly the case if there are multiple calls to actions on a single page, or other unrelated links, images or videos that grab their attention and take them elsewhere. Insofar as possible your web design should be clean and focused on the important elements.

    • Try a minimalist approach

While distractions are to be avoided at all costs, it would be of further benefit to also adopt a minimalist approach. There are exceptions to this rule, but generally a minimalist approach that contains only the most important elements in a design works best – as it can help the call to action stand out even more as a result. Not to mention that a minimalist approach also makes it easier to establish a visual hierarchy, as there are less competing elements in the design.

    • Learn through trial and error

As much as there are ways to improve the effectiveness of your call to action, there is still a lot that is bound to be subjective about it. Because of that the best way to approach your web design is through trial and error – by tracking its performance, making improvements, and learning what works and what does not. In the long term this can boost your conversions by leaps and bounds.

Be sure to get advice from web designers Sydney about how best to come up with a design that helps boost conversion rates through an effective call to action. With a good design your website will be able to fulfill its objective more easily and may even have a direct impact on your sales, lead generation, or other goals.
