More than a year ago, Recreate Coalition digital research agency published a study on American content makers. The study revealed the numbers of their yearly revenue. Content maker term was defined as a person who is making content. There were not only video content makers, there were all types of content makers possible, starting from video makers on Youtube and Twitch and following by self-released books on Amazon. The numbers of revenue and the number of participants in the content making were out of this world. Up to fourteen and a half million Americans earned more than $5.8 billion in 2017. Study mentions that, “…in 2017, nearly 17 million Americans earned income posting their personal creations on these nine platforms, an increase of more than 2.4 million U.S. creators, or 16.6 percent, in one year, and the numbers of income-earning creators grew most rapidly in percentage terms on YouTube, Twitch, and Instagram”. So a few years ago these self-made content creators had made near $7 billion on the nine platforms in 2017! And the rapid growth was available for the creators on Instagram, Twitch, Tumblr and YouTube.
And Twitch is a unique case of unexpected and fast growth, because a huge potential is still available. Twitch is growing through this year, and the growth numbers are the following:
- Up to 1.5 million concurrent viewers are watching something now
- Way more over 50,000 concurrent live streams are watched at any time
Not a bad audience number, huh? With such audience it’s easy to make better money while delivering a huge impact on people. However, there are the best, and there are other. The competition is enormously hard, and that’s why there aren’t many people are staying on the top. How many people are making huge money, getting really huge revenue for their lifestream? It’s like… up to 10-20 people are making the big buzz on a platform. But they do make it. They have not big, but massive audience. Such audience numbers are closer to the audiences of the blockbuster movies.
Playing games is fun, and everyone loves it. This activity is popular among every age group. However, so-called Z-Generation and its preccessedor previous millennial generation are really into watching others doing something. Well, watching others playing online and offline video games. What truly connects generations is Counter-Strike game. It was huge in early 2000s, and it kept growing bigger when Valve released Counter-Strike: Global offensive version of the game. Moreover, the profit channels both for streamers and Valve keep growing through showing off skins and skins trading. Yup, that’s true: you can trade virtual skins of the weapons from the game, which may look insane. There are marketplaces for that!
Twitch provides the gaming and streaming industries with some real numbers. Twitch volumes are really high, there is up to fifteen million daily viewers and near 139 million unique monthly visitors. Twitch became the most newest and the most unique platform for the young gamers and streamers. There is no better medium to communicate with gaming community, and sure thing Twitch is awesome for skills show off.
If you’re wondering about the engagement volume, it’s unbelievably high. According to the study, an average Twitch consumer spends at least 100 minutes to watch all kinds of streams from all kinds of game bloggers. We’re not saying that Twitch can compete with some real giants like YouTube, but there are several reasons to that. First of all, Twitch has a specific niche, which is not so common for every person. Though games become more and more popular, and gaming industry grows bigger every year, streaming of game playing is not the biggest thing for everyone. But people who are engaged with this type of entertainment are really loyal. Getting in touch with loyal audience is way more rewarding than creating videos for casual watchers. And though Twitch is still growing, it has already created “experiences, merchandise, community and entertainment” motto, which surely attracts the guys from advertisement departments of big corporations.
By the way, if you’re the guy from advertisement department, then Twitch is a must for you to include it to marketing strategy of this year.
