With 2019 off to a great start, aspiring business owners everywhere are taking a serious look at their existing lifestyles and wondering, “is there more for me out there?” The answer is a resounding yes. But you need to be willing to work for it and keep your foot on the pedal, even when times get tough. If you imagine yourself lounging on the beach in a hammock during the day and checking email to respond to clients at lunch with Mimosas, it can be done. But you need to put a few things in place first to set yourself up for that kind of lifestyle and success. We’ve put together a list of things you need to run your business from anywhere.

    The Obvious Equipment

Okay, so we are obviously not talking about running a brick and mortar store from anywhere in the world, but, if you hired a general manager and ensured you had some reliable internet access wherever your travels make take you, you could make it happen. Of course, you need a laptop with some wifi access. There are lots of internet data keys you can buy these days to take data with you wherever you go so even if the wifi is less than ideal, you can still make your business work from the beach. FYI: they don’t have internet at the beach so you’ll need a data key if you want to live that kind of lifestyle for sure. You’ll need your phone too. But other than that, there really isn’t a whole lot of stuff you need to take your show on the road and live the lifestyle you always wanted.

    A Plan

You need a plan, regardless of the kind of business you plan to run, whether you are just starting out of the idea has been bouncing around in your head for years. You need a plan that details how you will make money, where you will work when it’s time to work, how you will correspond with clients or customers, marketing, advertising, funding, travel arrangements, and so much more. What you’ll find is that you end up spending more time working on your business than working on the actual product or service your business offers, so you should get nice and cozy with the things associated with running a business. If you hire someone to help you run your business, make sure you have a way to pay them consistently and put a few dollars in the bank for a rainy day.

    Networking Wherever You Go

You can’t do anything in business without knowing where you want to go. If your goal is to live a free lifestyle, you still need to have a way to pay for all that, and running an internet business is just the way to do it. Find yourself some local coworking spaces when you roll into town and talk to business owners when you settle in one place for a while. Ask about their businesses and see what you can learn from them. Not only might they become clients of yours, or refer you to people who could become clients, but they can help you see your business from a different perspective and identify opportunities you didn’t even know existed! The more you talk to people, the more you win in business. It’s a fact.

A Product or Service People Want

Before you can do anything of this though, you need to have a product or service that people want from you. One of the best ways to find out what kind of products and services are needed is to – you guessed it! – talk to people. You can start spreading the word about your new business venture right now and get some great insight and advice from people who would use your products or buy your services from you. There’s no need to run with every bit of advice you get, but talking to people is a great way to learn more about the market you wish to serve.

As you start working toward your business ownership goals for 2019, remember that you can create the lifestyle you want. It requires hard work, dedication, a solid plan, and the willingness to just go out there and figure it out. But nobody said you had to be tied to a desk in a dark office to figure it out. Get out there and see the world and build your empire while you are at it!
