This morning, a video halted my scroll: “Taylor Swift is pregnant – look at that baby bump!” it proclaimed, accompanied by footage of the singer performing in a black and red sequin bodysuit during her Eras tour.
This isn’t the first time such posts have circulated on TikTok and Instagram, and honestly, haven’t we all seen these pregnancy rumors about Taylor Swift come and go countless times?
It’s baffling that some people still can’t understand how inappropriate it is to comment on a woman’s body in this manner.
In her documentary *Miss Americana*, Swift opened up about her struggles with disordered eating and body image, directly caused by public scrutiny.
She also addressed these pregnancy rumors during an interview with Variety while promoting the film, noting that these speculations have plagued her since she was 18. Now, at 34, she has dealt with these rumors for nearly half her life.
“I remember how, when I was 18, that was the first time I was on the cover of a magazine, and the headline was like ‘Pregnant at 18?'” the star recalled. “And it was because I had worn something that made my lower stomach look not flat. So, I just registered that as a punishment.
“And then I’d walk into a photo shoot and be in the dressing room, and somebody who worked at a magazine would say, ‘Oh, wow, this is so amazing that you can fit into the sample sizes. Usually, we have to make alterations to the dresses, but we can take them right off the runway and put them on you!’ And I looked at that as a pat on the head.”
Swift then discussed how the public’s focus on her body has led to unhealthy eating habits and extreme measures, including “starving” herself before performances and excessive exercise.
Since “Miss Americana” premiered in 2020, we’ve had ample time to understand that perpetuating pregnancy rumors is not only disrespectful but also detrimental to Swift’s well-being.
This issue extends beyond her to other female celebrities as well—whether they are royals or actresses, it seems no one is spared from invasive speculation about their bodies.
Celebrities like Kourtney Kardashian Barker and Chrissy Teigen have also voiced their distress over such rumors, especially when they were facing challenges with conception or adjusting to postpartum changes.
So, let’s make this a definitive reminder: if you encounter videos or posts suggesting Taylor Swift or any other celebrity is pregnant without an official announcement, simply scroll past. Refrain from engaging or commenting with questions or emojis about their bodies.
There are only two acceptable times to assume someone is pregnant: when they explicitly tell you or when they are in labor.
Let’s focus on enjoying the Eras tour for the right reasons!
