7 Rules Every New Gamer Should Follow

    RichardBy RichardJanuary 25, 2018Updated:January 28, 2018No Comments4 Mins Read

Gaming is a great activity to play with friends, family members and even people you’ve never met. If you’re new to gaming, it can be difficult to get to know all the unwritten rules and etiquette in the gaming community, however, we’re here to help! We’ve found the top 7 rules for you to follow as a new gamer, to help you get your foot in the door and get the best gaming experience possible. Read on to learn more…

    1. Get social

If you’re in it to win it, it helps to get social and stay abreast of all the latest updates in your gaming community. If you don’t have any social media or Reddit accounts, sign up to one or two and join the game-related groups or forums.

This gives you the opportunity to speak to like-minded gamers and gain valuable tips and tricks that can help you to improve your skills. As well as this, talking to others who share the same hobby can be really fun, so don’t be afraid to get stuck in and see what you can find.

    2. Be open to trying new games

You never want to be ‘that’ person who always forces everyone to play their favourite game on games night. Even if you’ve spent countless hours mastering Minecraft and you don’t want to stray away from it, it’s always a good idea to diversify and stay open to playing new games.

Not only does this give your friends a chance to play their preferred games, it also gives you the opportunity to try new ones – who knows, you may even find a new favourite!

    3. Keep your gaming gear protected

For those transporting gaming gear from house-to-house or to multiple gaming events, you’ll want peace of mind that your console and controller is safe whilst you’re on the move. A hard console case from the Case Farm is the perfect solution to provide the ultimate protection for your games console and accessories.

Alternatively, if you want to keep your console in mint condition, a case with a custom foam insert is the best option to protect your kit from dust and scratches.

    4. Don’t be a sore loser

No matter what game you’re playing, or who you’re playing with, the general consensus in the gaming community is that no-one likes a sore loser. Gaming is all about fun, so if you spend time getting worked up about a friend scoring more points, the fun will run out fairly quickly.

Instead, take failure in your stride and use it to perfect your skills; alternatively, brush it off and get ready for the next game!

    5. Research or try before you buy

Games are a significant investment and it can often cost upwards of £50 for the latest releases. That’s why it’s crucial to research your choices before buying them and ensure that you’re making the right decision.

On the other hand, if you know someone who already has the game that you want, ask them if you can try it out first, so that you can see if you like it before you make the investment yourself.

    6. Respect the house rules

If you’re playing at someone else’s house, you may find that they always insist on being player one. Why? No-one really knows, but in general it’s good gaming etiquette to respect the house rules.

This can be anything from knowing where to sit on the sofa, to knowing which Mario Kart player is out-of-bounds. This may sound a little crazy but respecting house rules is just a small part of gaming to be mindful of. Don’t forget, when it’s your turn to host games night, your guests will have to abide by your rules, too.

    7. Have fun

It’s important to learn there are no real ‘rules’ for gaming and that’s what makes it so enjoyable. So long as you remember to be respectful of your fellow gamers and have fun, you’ll have the best gaming experience possible.
