We are excited to be sponsoring The NonProfit Times Power & Influence Top 50 Gala in September. It is an impressive list of people, representing some great organizations that have made a significant impact on the world around us. Shortly after reading more about the people, I was looking at some of the vacation photos from my annual Father/Son Baseball trip during which we visited six museums, an aquarium, stumbled upon a duck race fundraiser for Special Olympics, Illinois and attended a Kansas City Royals game where they celebrated "Christmas in July" to help the Salvation Army raise awareness and funds. Nonprofits played a key role in our fun and enjoyment (only one asked from my email address to try to build a relationship - but that is another post for another day.) Following on my last post about how Eunice Kennedy Shriver influenced my life and career, I started to think about the power and influence nonprofit organizations have in our lives. I started wondering how many nonprofits the average person is exposed to and the influence they have on our lives over a 24 hour period.

So I’m going to run a little experiment. Starting tonight at 5:00, I am going to try to measure the exposure and influence nonprofits have on me and my family through Sunday night when I go to bed.

Any bets on how many organizations and messages I will be exposed to?

Besides the period when I am asleep, how long do you think I will go between being exposed to an organization and their message?

A couple caveats. While I am at work tomorrow, I will not count any of that unless it is from a friend or business associate having nothing to do with our work here to passionately serve nonprofits. I will not count the communications from wife who works for a nonprofit (though having a pay check from a nonprofit has an important impact on my family – duh.)
